The Yacht
Aquila is a 34ft 6in Bruce Roberts 345 design with a fin keel on a green hull. Auxiliary power is supplied by an 25hp diesel engine. At 10.5 metres in length people are amazed at how spacious she is, above and below decks with good headroom throughout. Aquila is a steel self built boat and is immensely strong and was built specifically for training work.
Her mainsail has three slabs of reefing, the foresail is a roller reefing genoa. A separate forestay allows for conventional hanked headsails to be hoisted in stronger winds in place of the genoa. The decking has an excellent non-slip surface and guardrails all round. The cockpit is deep and secure with a sprayhood. Steering is with a tiller. She is well ballasted at 10 tonnes.
Below decks, the forward cabin has a vee berth and plenty of stowage space with an overhead hatch, so is bright and spacious with six feet of headroom and long, comfortable berths. Coming aft, there is the W.C. and a hanging locker. There is an efficient heater in this area to ward off a chill and to dry damp items.
The saloon has two berths and a pilot berth, plenty of stowage, and a library with a great variety of books. To starboard of the companionway is the galley and to port, the well appointed navigation area, with a large quarter berth aft of it.
As a fully coded vessel Aquila has a full compliment of safety gear aboard to a high specification, including liferaft, G.P.S., Navtex, adult automatic lifejackets and harnesses, complying fully with the Commercial Vessels Code of Practice.
