General Information

The most important aspect of going cruising is that you enjoy yourself and at the same time build up your knowledge and experience in boat handling and in all aspects of cruising. Generally we will be anchored or berthed at night but we will also be making a passage during darkness to gain some night sailing experience.

We certainly don't spend all our time sailing. There will be time to visit ashore, to explore solitary islands or to admire the sunset from a vantage point or to watch seals or porpoises at play.

Transportation to Oban is easy with good rail, bus and road links. As a place to cruise from it is excellent as you start and finish in sheltered waters with numerous anchorages and the open sea is not far away.

If you have no previous sailing experience, and going cruising on the West Coast of Scotland appeals to you, please do come along as beginners are most certainly welcome and you will soon feel comfortable on this easily managed yacht.

The courses available are five days long. They start on a Sunday at 17.00 at the North Pier right in the centre of Oban adjacent to the Columba Hotel and finish there on Friday. The pier is only a few minutes walk from the railway station and bus stop. For those coming by car the North pier is sign posted as a right turn just after the pedestrian crossing and there is a car park adjacent to it for short term parking.
